Toast racks - Art Deco darling

Art_deco_silver_plated_toast_r

Just bought this Art Deco silver plated toast rack on Ebay for just £12.
Am delighted with myself and it.
The Ebay seller was vincecatcat if you're interested in toast racks.
I never was before but my eccentric husband has special toast requirements: it must have cooled and must not lie on the plate while it does so (this causes sogginess)...a woman's work is never done.
Anyway, I have tired of trying to balance his toast against the kettle and other random implements.
And this pleases me, aesthetically speaking.

Chanel-esque lace

French_connection_antique_lace

There's some wonderful bits and pieces in the sales at the moment but of course laser-type precision is needed to get them. Sales are too stressful generally and too messy for extended trips (I think).

This shone like a beacon at me through the craziness at French Connection and it is only £55.

It is more beautiful in real life. Frothy antique lace and jet black sequins.

It sounds so wrong and yet it is so right. Very Chanel to my eye.

I'm very happy to welcome it into my wardrobe.

I mustache you not to do that

Mustache_mugs

Love these! Upcycled white espresso cups. Found on Etsy, sold by UptownAvenue.
They have been sold out but you could make your own with mustache stickers (we're having a tache moment doncha know).
Might be a good accessory for girls during Movember? Good home accessory for any time of the year really.

Popsicles are the new cupcakes

Popbar_popsicles

Can someone please bring this popsicle franchise to London?

How gorgeous are these? A new ice-cream shop and concept in NYC. Hand-crafted gelato on a stick made with all natural ingredients. Found this via Jordan Ferney's beautiful blog http://jordanferney.blogspot.com/

Tape but not as we know it

Happy_tape_lemonade

Love this Happy Tape. It is $36 for this set.
Gorgeous colours and patterns. I'm really into plain brown paper or white paper with cute tape and tied up with simple grosgrain ribbon. (when I have the time and inclination - otherwise I rely on lovely shops to wrap things nicely for me).

I can't believe it's IKEA

I couldn't believe everything in this shoot is from Ikea, but then I looked closely and I started to recognise shapes and pieces.
Shows what you can do when you have a stylist (Lo Bjurulf) who is super-talented. For more gorgeous shots go here

Makes we want to brave the meatballs and screaming kids at Ikea and try to recreate some of these looks.
The wedding shot in particular is inspiring.

Knickers to that

Collettedinnigan_marksandspenc

The new Colette Dinnigan range at M&S is only gorgeous. I especially love the art direction of the PR/advertising shots.

Not only do I want to buy the undies, I now want an accent wall painted in my dressing room with a selection of vintage plates on it.

Prices for the underwear start at £6 (for something very teeny I suspect - a sliver of g-string), the bras start at £16 for a plunge and go up to £22.50 for a padded balcony. There are lovely chemises too. I've bought some of her pieces before (from her previous M&S collection) and they fit really well.

Ideal Home

Victorian_doll_house_front

If I could make a human sized version of this house I would.

I'd plonk it in the middle of a field in West Cork, near the sea and live happily ever after.

In the meantime I'll hope that if I have a girl (when I grow up) that I can buy her this and insist upon playing dolls.

Why that is fascinating!

Ac_fascinator

I love an aul fascinator for a wedding. Hats scare me a bit because I am clumsy and prone to catching people in the eye with the rim or somehow getting stuck to other peoples hair.

HOWEVER fascinators are a bit 'whateva' in most shops - they just look a bit cheap and sad - a bit of tragic feather attached to a clip.

I bought this fascinator one day in M&S when I'd gone in to buy lunch. It caught my eye in the queue upstairs and was a total impulse purchase.

It is quite enormous and the fabric is excellent quality, from Autograph.
I've since had loads of compliments on it and no one believes it is M&S (which I guess is a compliment to M&S even though I love them).

The husband of course, hates it. Men are frightened of fascinators I think…but that's a whole other thing…

Beautiful Barga

Barga

I was lucky enough to visit a small Tuscan town in late May. Two gorgeous friends got married there. A host of their friends lit up the town for four days. Barga is a wonderful town to visit, about an hour from Pisa in a car but a whole world away from city smells and stress.
There is a real, nourishing peace there.
I stayed at Alpino hotel on Via G. Pascoli 42, 55051 Barga. Room 10 - it has a kitchen, bathroom, living room and a fab balcony with a stone table that overlooks the main square of Barga. From there I could see all the local action and the lush green hills that surround the town.

The wedding itself was in Villa Moorings an impressive castle-like house with a turquoise pool and a totally romantic tower. A stunning location that made everyone brim with delight.

I can't recommend Barga highly enough as a spot for a weekend break or indeed a magical wedding.Trying to see if I can go back there in September.
